You have to read 6 to 12 English books according to the portion. Reading the portion is very
important for poems, prose and supplementary. Very less
poems and prose and stories are included in the syllabus of tnpsc general english from 6
to 8 books.
I have some idea about Appreciation questions from poem
you have to just read meanings or synonyms given in the back of poem page that's
enough.
For other literary works or about the author you have to
READ ABOUT THE AUTHOR OR POET given in 9th 10th 11th 12th books and
in the SUPPLEMENTARY AUTHORS too. (Its mostly present in start of the poem or prose or in end)
More questions from Shakespeare plays you have read every thing in
that plays..
And for the Julius Cesar play you can just read Brutus dialogues that's enough to distinguish
Brutus or Antony ...
Both merchant of Venice and Julius Cesar you also have to read monologue..
For important lines from poem you can only read the poems
mention in portion... You don't have to mug up the lines given in the
poem just read 3 or 4 times you can easily distinguish which poem is it
? or who is the author to the lines ?.. (Important lines from poem
mentioned two or three times in the portion)..
Mostly read all the poems prose supplementary of 9th 10th 11th 12th
for glance... and stress more time for one that given in the
portion.....
."Comprehension Questions from the following description of Places" is
very important you have to read every thing in that prose..
If you
reading poem prose or supplementary just note down the author,
nationality of story and characters names and also "write quotes given
in that prose and who said it" Eg: Emerson says, “Envy is ignorance
and imitation is suicide”. its quote THE ROAD TO SUCCESS from 11th
prose....
